Northeast Lamar Fire, Rescue, & EMS
Station 1: 660 Weathersby Road
Station 2: 5502 West 4th Street
Hattiesburg, MS 39402

Northeast Lamar Fire, Rescue, & EMS has been serving
areas of Northeast Lamar county since 1972. At that time,
the newly formed Northeast Lamar Volunteer Fire
Department provided fire protection to the residents of Oak
Grove, Richburg Hills, Lamar Park, Arnold Line, University
Place, West Lake Manor, Westover, Westhills, and Lake
Forgetful among others. As times have changed, what was Northeast
Lamar Volunteer Fire Department has in 2003 become Northeast Lamar Fire, Rescue, &
EMS providing invaluable fire, medical, and rescue services to the residents in Lamar
county. As the mission of the department has grown, so has the demand for personnel,
equipment, and resources. And yet some things never change. As in 1978, Northeast
Lamar is dedicated to providing professional emergency services to this area whether in the
time of fire, motor vehicle accident, medical emergencies, weather related emergency, or
whatever the need. Also, as in 1978, Northeast Lamar continues to be an all volunteer
organization which is comprised of your next door neighbor.
And yes, in many ways Northeast Lamar has continued to grow and improve. In 1978, a new
fire truck was purchased to respond to all emergency calls received by the fireman on the
home telephones. To date, Northeast Lamar operates two fire stations with the most
modern equipment available in any of Lamar and Forest counties. In 1978, Northeast Lamar
answered 35 calls. By 2004, this had increased to over 367 calls of assistance.
Northeast Lamar Fire, Rescue, & EMS receives funding from the Northeast Lamar Fire
Protection District and the Lamar County Board of Supervisor through tax millage. The
continued financial support of these two governing boards have made Northeast Lamar Fire,
Rescue, & EMS the success it is to date.
Many exciting times are ahead for NELFD. Construction will soon begin on a new Station 1
replacing the existing structure at 660 Weathersby Road. This is due to the support of the
Lamar County Board of Supervisors and CBDG Grant. NELFD will also soon take delivery of
a new Class A pumper. And finally in 2007 NELFD received a SAFER Grant to hire our first
full-time firefighter. We look forward to continuing to provide the residents of our district with
the best fire protection possible.
